Marvel bosses didn’t want Iron Man and Captain America to be angry with each other in Civil War, the directors Russo brothers were angry with their bosses and almost left the MCU.

Captain America: Civil War is one of the most successful works of the MCU to date.

However, the book The Story of Marvel Studios: The Making of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, published in mid-October, revealed a behind-the-scenes secret that few people know about Captain America: Civil War: The Russo Brothers.

Why do the Russo brothers want to abandon Captain America: Civil War?

As mentioned above, Joe and Anthony Russo once had many disagreements with some of Marvel’s superiors, specifically in this case the members of a department called the Marvel Creative Committee (roughly translated: Creative Committee).

If you don’t know, in the past, the scripts and content of MCU movies had to go through an extremely strict censorship process.

In the Captain America: Civil War project, Marvel Creative Committee wanted to change the ending for this movie.

Joe and Anthony strongly opposed that idea, even threatening to withdraw from the Civil War project if the Marvel Creative Committee continued to interfere with their creative process.

Creative Committee or a thorn in the side of MCU directors and writers?

Marvel bosses didn't want Iron Man and Captain America to be angry with each other in Civil War, the directors Russo brothers were angry with their bosses and almost left the MCU.

Marvel Creative Committee is an association of many `big names` of Marvel, including: Former comic book writer Brian Michael Bendis, Marvel Entertainment Creative Director Joe Quesada, Marvel Entertainment President Dan Buckley,

However, the power and influence of the Marvel Creative Committee is always considered a `thorn in the side` of the team of directors and screenwriters working for the MCU.

For example, director James Gunn once shared that this committee once suggested removing the fun, 70s-style soundtrack in Guardians of the Galaxy.

Iron Man 3 could not escape the same fate.

The final typical example is director Edgar Wright’s decision to withdraw from the Ant-Man project because the committee interfered too much in the film’s construction process.

Why are the Russo brothers an important piece in the MCU’s Infinity Saga?

Marvel bosses didn't want Iron Man and Captain America to be angry with each other in Civil War, the directors Russo brothers were angry with their bosses and almost left the MCU.

Back to the main issue, after the success of Captain America: Civil War, Marvel Studios immediately realized that Joe and Anthony Russo were the people they needed to find for the director position of Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame.

More importantly, Whedon once admitted he didn’t know how to end the Infinity Saga.

On the contrary, when making Civil War, the Russo brothers had already sketched out the idea of how the MCU story would develop after the disbandment of the Avengers and before the appearance of Thanos.

It would not be an exaggeration to say that Captain America: Civil War is the final ability test that the Russo brothers must undergo to be able to sit as directors of the next two Avengers movies.
